Create Your Own Resin Ghosts
👻 How to Create Spooky Resin Ghosts: A Step-by-Step Guide with a Haunting Glow
🫗 Pouring with Epoxy
What you'll need:
✅ Protective gear (gloves, mask, etc.)
✅ Heat gun
✅ Paper Plates
✅ Plastic Wrap
✅ Rocks, Beads or Pebbles or your choice
✅ Mini Cups
✅ Ping Pong Balls
🪄 Instructions:
sTep 5: check the resin for transfer readiness
After pouring the resin and letting it sit, it’s important to monitor its consistency before transferring it to your master model. The resin needs to firm up just enough to hold its shape but still be flexible enough to drape over your model.
Set a timer for about 1 hour and 45 minutes. After that, begin checking the resin every 15 minutes. Gently poke it with a toothpick—if the resin still pulls or moves when you touch it, it’s not ready yet. You’re looking for a point where it feels slightly tacky and holds its shape without running or spreading. If the resin still flows or feels too liquidy, give it more time.
Once it reaches the right consistency, it should be firm enough to lift and drape but still pliable, allowing you to shape it into the flowing ghostly effect, this is usually around 2 to 2 ½ hours into the curing process.
sTep 6: create and drape your ghosts
Use the model you made for shaping your ghosts. Once the resin reaches a thick, honey-like consistency, at about the 2 to 2 ½ hour mark (depending on how much resin you used and the tempature of your room) drape it over your model. Be careful when lifting the plastic; make sure the edges don’t touch the resin to avoid sticking. Adjust the resin to get that perfect flowing, ghostly drape.
Pro Tip: Use painter's tape to secure the plastic underneath the resin to help control how it drapes. By taping down certain areas of the plastic, you can guide the resin flow and shape the folds of your ghosts exactly how you want them. This technique allows you to create unique, eerie draping effects, giving your ghosts more defined and spooky designs.
step 8: add finishing touches
Now comes the fun part—decorating! Use paint markers to draw spooky faces, or get creative with other Halloween-inspired designs. For an extra eerie effect, place battery-operated tea lights underneath your ghosts to make them glow.
Pro Tip: Avoid real candles or flames with resin creations. Only use battery-operated lights to prevent any risk of melting or damage. If you want to create extra glow, try using glow-in-the-dark paint or glitter.
