Alumilite Mold Putty

This How To process will walk you through step by step the procedure for making a quick & easy mold using Alumilite's Mold Putty.

Alumilite's Mold Putty allows you to make quick impressions without a mold box. Here we are going to make a replica of a human finger using the putty. The Mold Putty is safe to use and complies with FDA standards for food contact. The first step to making a quick and easy mold is to measure out equal amounts of side A and side B of the putty.

Then, knead the two sides together until uniform color is reached (approx. 30-45 seconds but no more than 1 minute). You can mix it by kneading, twisting, pulling, or rolling it in your hands. Mix it thoroughly until the putty is a consistant purple color.

Roll the mixed putty into a ball and then start from the end of your fingertip and squeeze the putty down your finger toward your knuckle. Rolling the putty over your part will help avoid air entrappment by eliminating the chance of encapsulating air pockets against the surface of your part.

Let your finger or part set for approximately 10 minutes, the mold will harden into a firm flexible rubber mold. Once the rubber has hardened, you may remove your finger or original. Now you are ready to cast your piece.

Using Alumilite Regular, shake the B side and mix equal amounts of both sides of Alumilite's casting resin. Stir for about 25 seconds until uniform color is reached.

Slowly pour the mixed resin into the mold. Tipping it a little while you pour will help fill in any undercuts and reduce the chance of air bubbles. Alumilite Regular has a 90 second open time and a demold time of approximately 5 minutes.

Once the Alumilite Regular has set up, demold your original. Your cast replica will have the exact detail of your original piece. All of the detail of your finger prints, cuticles, and hang nails will be picked up in your mold made with the Mold Putty and reproduced in your Alumilite Casting. You now have the capability to reproduce anything from start to finish within 15-20 minutes!
